Annual Report 2012
CEO’s Statement /
and welding. Recent measures by the
government to restrict the growth of foreign
workers in Singapore are another challenge
to securing manpower for the future.
Recognising these challenges, the Group is
focusing on several initiatives. Retention of
the existing workforce is one key area, and
the Group commits to a policy of sharing
profts with the workforce so that interests
are aligned. We embrace re-employment
and are keen to enhance the working lives of
our employees. We have and will continue
to invest in new equipment in all facets
of our production capabilities to boost
manpower productivity at our facilities, as
well as investments in the areas of fnance
and HR to streamline processes. In this
area, government and union initiatives
of supporting capital investment to spur
productivity have been very helpful and we
have taken advantages of such opportunities.
Our total staf strength in Singapore is about
300.
Improving the working environment is also
a challenge we embrace. During the year, we
streamlined working hours in our various
facilities. We will continue to look to ways to
enhance employees’ welfare. Elsewhere in
Bahrain, we continue to pace our recruitment
in line with the underlying business outlook.
Our current staf strength of 41 is targeted
to reach 120 in 2013. Our strategy here is to
source local candidates and train them at our
facility while augmenting overall numbers by
recruitment from overseas for experienced
personnel and managerial positions.
Within Australia, fnding experienced
technical persons to man our engine
systems branches remains a challenge
given the full employment situation and the
growing mining and resources sector. We
continue to focus on developing a bigger
pool of apprentices to strengthen long term
capabilities. Our total staf strength in
Australia is approximately 200.
In our bid to strengthen our pool of
employees, MTQ works closely with local
educational institutions in Singapore
and Bahrain for training and educational
purposes. This not only broadens our future
talent pool but also supports the very
institutions that need to thrive and prosper
to supply our future manpower needs.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE
Safety in the work place is paramount.
The nature of our work in heavy oil and gas
engineering poses inherent risks which need
to be actively managed. We strengthened
our focus in this area through the recruitment
of a dedicated safety manager and we have
also recorded a full year of zero reportable
accidents at our main facility in Pandan
Loop. In the course of this past year, our
facilities have been successfully audited
by industry bodies such as DNV, ASME and
API. We have also been regularly audited by
our customers to ensure compliance with
industry regulations and procedures. This is
an important area of emphasis that needs to
constantly remain at the forefront of all that
we do.
In our bid to strengthen our pool of employees, MTQ works closely
with local educational institutions in Singapore and Bahrain for
training and educational purposes. This not only broadens our
future talent pool but also supports the very institutions that need
to thrive and prosper to supply our future manpower needs.
